Free vs Paid Streaming: Are the subscription platforms worth

Lately I’ve been wondering whether paying for multiple streaming subscriptions is still worth it. Prices keep going up every few months, and I feel like I’m jumping from one platform to another just to watch a single show. Some friends say free alternatives are enough for casual watching, but I’m not sure. I don’t mind paying if there’s real value, but I’m trying to understand what people actually get out of those subscriptions beyond convenience. Has anyone here switched from paid platforms to free ones and felt the difference?

Honestly, I’ve gone back and forth on this a lot. I used to pay for three different services at the same time, mostly because each one had a series I didn’t want to miss. But when I started tracking how often I actually opened those apps, I realized I was barely using them. Sometimes I’d pay for a full month and watch maybe two episodes. Eventually I decided to experiment with free options just to see if they covered my day-to-day needs. Sites like goojara movie site came in handy when I wanted something quick to watch without feeling tied to a subscription. Obviously it’s not the same polished experience—no fancy recommendations or curated lists—but it worked surprisingly well for casual viewing. The biggest thing for me was that I no longer felt guilty about “wasting” money during months when I wasn’t watching much. I still keep one paid service for shows I follow closely, but I’ve cut the rest and don’t really miss them. Everyone’s habits are different though, so I guess it depends on how much content you actually consume.

Interesting to read both of your takes. I’ve been reducing my subscriptions too, mostly because I realized I don’t watch consistently throughout the year. Sometimes I binge a lot, then go silent for weeks. Mixing one paid service with free alternatives seems like a balanced approach, especially if you just want occasional entertainment without committing to several monthly fees.
